Modern Warfare 4's Firing Range is where a loadout starts making sense. It is a private place to test a rifle before putting it into a real match, and it does not touch your multiplayer record. That matters during the August 2026 Beta, when a small attachment change can make a weapon feel completely different. Some players jump straight into MW4 Bot Lobbies to get comfortable with match pacing, but the range is better for isolating the gun itself. You can fire, reset, swap one part, and fire again. No waiting around. No guesswork from a hectic round.

Getting into the range

Start at the multiplayer screen and open Weapons. Pick Create a Class, select the loadout you want to work on, then enter Gunsmith for that weapon. The Firing Range prompt is shown from there. On a controller, it is commonly tied to the left trigger; on PC, use the on-screen prompt or your assigned key. The move takes only a moment, so it is easy to compare two builds without losing your train of thought. A simple routine works well: 1. Fire a full magazine with the current setup. 2. Change one attachment only. 3. Repeat the same shots and notice what actually moved.

What to watch while firing

The room has three lanes, with practice targets set at short, mid, and distant positions. That makes it useful for more than just recoil checking. Try a close target while strafing, then move to a longer lane and see whether the optic still feels right. The Beta's brighter lighting also makes bullet marks and weapon details easier to pick out. Keep an eye on the upper-left display as well. It records useful results while you shoot.

Quick range readout

Metric | What it tells you.
Targets Killed | Whether your rhythm and magazine capacity suit the drill.
Accuracy | How much of the spray is landing rather than drifting away.
Damage Done | The practical output of the build across several targets.
Moving Target Range | How well the weapon holds up when the target is not still.
Time To Kill | Which setup finishes the target faster under similar conditions.

Make the results useful

You can pause inside the range and alter attachments, optics, or tuning without backing out through several menus. That is the real advantage. Test an assault rifle for steadiness, a submachine gun for quick handling, or a sniper rifle for sight picture and follow-up speed. Do not chase one perfect number, either. A build with slightly lower damage may still suit you if the recoil is easier to hold. If you plan to buy Bot Lobby MW4 access for further practice, bring a range-tested class first, then focus on movement, routes, and timing once the gun feels familiar.
